Sarah Elizabeth Young
My great-grand mother, died in 1972 in Morrilton Arkansas. She survived two husbands and had a total of nine children, eight of whom, lived into adulthood.
We start with her on the Johnston family page because it is her that anchored the Young and Johnston families to the 21st century.
She was born Sallie Elizabeth Young, September 12, 1878 or 1879 in Mississippi. Her father, George W. Young of Corinth, Mississippi married Drucilla Janice Hamilton. They had seven children:
She married William Albert Ellis in December 23, 1894, when she was 16 years old. The marriage took place in Ada Valley, Conway County, Arkansas.

She was born Sallie Elizabeth Young, September 12, 1878 or 1879 in Mississippi. Her father, George W. Young of Corinth, Mississippi married Drucilla Janice Hamilton. They had seven children:
- John T Young 1866–

- Willis Young 1869–
- Mattie L. A. Young 1869–
- E W Young 1872–
- Isaac Young1872–
- Robert (Bob) Young1877–1966
- Ollie Sheets1878–1973
- Sarah "Sallie" Elizabeth Young1879–1972
She married William Albert Ellis in December 23, 1894, when she was 16 years old. The marriage took place in Ada Valley, Conway County, Arkansas.
On 11-11-1896 Sarah gives birth to William Otto Ellis (hence forth known as Otto.) Otto was born with a withered arm, which you can see on the photo above. On 11-16-1896 she gives birth to Lottie. On 5-12-1900 Sarah gives birth to Herman Albert Ellis. Lottie dies on 5-28-1900 and is buried in the Ada Valley Cemetery. Given those dates, and the size of Herman, this photo was likely taken between June 1900 and 1902.
In 1900 the Federal census records that her, Albert Ellis, Lottie and Otto were living in Yell County Arkansas. Albert's profession is listed as "saw mill laborer." The census indicates that he were living in a house that they owned, albeit with a mortgage.
In September, 1902 tragedy strikes William Albert Ellis is killed. Our family's oral family history is that William Albert was a debt collector. The story is that he was stabbed to death while trying to collect a debt.
The Ellis family in Arkansas flourished despite the loss of William Albert. An Ellis Family history documents that William Albert's brother, Thomas J. Ellis, is married twice and father to eleven children.
The photo history of the Johnstons includes many pictures of Ellis family members. It's obvious that, despite the loss of William Albert, the Ellis and Johnston family remained close for generations.
